Response to some posts from this week's Brass Monkey challenge!!ย I love discussing topics like this within the community, so I'm really glad this weekly challenge led us hereย ๐ย "Like" this post or leave a comment below if you have things to addย โฌ๏ธ
Vanessaย okay so actually I'm not going to fight you at all on your opinion on cross ankle vs cross knee transition to brass monkey ๐คฃ I put a comment on Elena Martelli's video yesterday that Espiย can chime in on too...
looking back at the layout of that tutorial, the "cross knee layback" entry should have been moved down in the intermediate or even advanced topics section of the tutorial and the "kick up from floor" and "drop down" should have been moved up to the more "beginner" topics of the tutorial.
I believe my original thought when making the placement like that was that cross knee layback is typically less scary than cross ankle layback, BUT when it comes to transitioning to brass monkey, the low back twist needed for that cross knee layback is A LOT and can absolutely feel very awkward.
Would love to hear others chime in! Love seeing all the posts and questions from this week!

Coach Steph
Steph can fight me on this one, but cross ankle layback to brass monkey has always been easier than cross knee to me. Requires less flailing to find the pole and legs feel more secure in the transition ๐ฌI'm bendy so I can do both, but anyone struggling with the cross knee layback (๐๐ฝ) I'd try cross ankle first personally.
Have a tutorial request? Drop it in the comments ๐๐ผ
Stephanie Tallant very funny ๐คฃ๐ for the first, is it a back flexibility problem or am I doing something wrong? ๐ Could you also give me an opinion about the second? Thank you ๐ค
Has anyone tried this brass monkey drop into shoulder mount??? Wondering if thereโs a banded exercise or something that can help with conditioning this. You ideally are just going from that brass monkey stand into shoulder mount as a drop (I.e my legs donโt stay on the pole)

Hey! Stephanie Tallant I practised the VERY beginning of the blacksun tutorial which was basically my elbow grip aeysha. The instructor there recommended I try practicing iguana to get some more stability in the move and get my stomach closer. This video is the only attempt where I started to get my legs to the other side of the pole then got scared and bailed ๐
