I find the pointer finger down is helpful, BUT try it without and see how it goes. I know you're starting up about as high as you can. Yes, I find the more I can slide, the more I can bring my leg down. It's also a very intense squeeeeeeze of the back leg glute! Such great progress tho! Keep me posted!

Can you try keeping your right leg straight and bracing the bottom of your right foot on the pole (above your hooked knee) while you change the hands and then extending the legs open at the same time? Does this make sense?
